Next week happens to be a very special time at the White House because Evan and I will be celebrating five years of marriage! Last month, we had the opportunity to shoot an anniversary session with Paige Winn Photography and I’ve been dying to share them with you. It’s been extremely hard not to post all 95 photos all over Instagram. Paige captured both of us so well and it was a delight to work with her. I’ve never shared our love story on the blog but it felt like now was the right time to share.

Evan and I went to the same college in North Carolina. He was the President of Pi Kappa Phi and a year older than me. We had never met on campus even though we attended a very small school. At the time, I was pledging Alpha Xi Delta. Annually, Pi Kappa Phi hosts the formal event “Roseball” in Charleston, SC which is where the fraternity was founded. While both attending the event in Charleston, we met for the first time. We became friends as the school year was winding down. Over the summer, we began instant messaging over Facebook because obviously we were super cool back in 2009.

Evan lived in South Carolina and I lived in North Carolina. We were a five hour drive apart. After a few casual conversations, we really hit it off. We began texting each other all the time. We had never been on a date or really hung out together but there was something about him that I really liked. To me he was driven, adventurous, and extremely kind. One night after I had gotten home from my summer job (at Abercrombie and Fitch. I hope you all get a good laugh at that), Evan texted me and asked me to be his girlfriend. I still laugh because this guy I knew for like three weeks just asked me out via text. However, I really liked him and couldn’t shake the feeling that it was meant to be. So we began dating the summer of 2009 all via text or phone call because of the long distance.

Once we returned to college, we were inseparable. He was my best friend and biggest supporter. When no one understood the college stress, he was there cheering me on. In May of 2011, a week before he graduated college, he took me on a trip to Charleston. He proposed on the trip and a year later we got married under the Spanish moss in Charleston, SC.

The awesome part about this shoot was that we got to take our photos in Charleston. Our photographer chose this gorgeous polo club as the perfect back drop. It was nothing less than breathtakingĀ and shows the true us. I look back at our wedding photos and we look like little kids. The past five years have been filled with growth, change, and the best times of our lives. I feel like just yesterday I was chugging water before I walked down the Ā isle because I was so anxious (it’s scary when it’s just you and your dad before you start walking).

It’s been the biggest blessing of my life to have the chance to share my life with my best friend. We plan on celebrating in a BIG way. I will not be posting any blog posts here next week but I PROMISE it will be worth your wait (big things are coming to DOHS). Finally, make sure you follow me on Instagram to keep up with our upcoming adventures!
